Ségurs faszinierende Videodokumentation "Erwachsen werden in der Südsee" zeigt. Bei uns in Afrika im Mande Sprachgebiet heißt dies "Kamalenya".
Der Name meiner Gruppe ist Programm: Percussion Mania ist wonach es
klingt - eine mitreißende Rhythmusschlacht, in der nicht nur wir

To demonstrate power, energy and courage,
in order to be considered as an adult, is one of the most beautiful
traditions - not only in Africa but world-wide, as Jérôme Ségur's
exciting video documentation "Becoming a man in Melanesia" shows. In Africa, in the Mande language area this is called "Kamalenya".
The name of my group is its program: Percussion Mania is precisely that
- an intoxicating battle of rhythms, in which not only we musicians are

La démonstration de la force, de l'énergie et du courage
pour devenir un adulte, c'est l'une des plus belles traditions - non
seulement en Afrique mais ŕ travers le monde - comme l'illustre
l´excellent documentaire de Jérôme Ségur « Devenir un homme en Mélanésie ». Chez nous en Afrique dans la région Mandé on appelle ceci « Kamalenya
». Le nom de mon groupe, Percussion Mania, c'est le reflet d'un orage
de rythmes sous lequel non seulement nous, les musiciens devons tomber
dans une certaine forme de transe. Cet album représente « notre Kamalenya ». (plus...)
Erőt, energiát és bátorságot
bizonyitani, hogy felnőttnek számítsunk, a legszebb hagyományok közé
tartozik. Nem csak Afrikában, hanem - mint Jérôme Ségur lenyügöző
videója (Férfivá válás Melanéziában) mutatja - az egész világon is. Nálunk Afrikában a Mandé népeknél ezt "Kamalenya"-nak
nevezik. Együttesem neve, Percussion Mania, egyúttal programunk is: egy
szédítő ritmuskavalkád. Nem csak mi zenészek esünk transzba amikor
fellépünk... Ez a CD a "mi Kamalenya"-nk.

"This record here is a little masterpiece by the balaphonist Mamadou. Together with his fellow countrymen Karim and Louis Sanou he burns down rhythmical fireworks, which are not only exciting in tempo but also played in a quite subtle and sophisticated manner. Along with wonderfully lightfooted and narrative runs on the balaphon there are not only the jembe drums but also the warm sounds of the Ngoni, a (mostly six stringed) relative of the kora. Thus lyrical elements are coming into the game, and especially from the balaphon you’ll hear sequences clearly marking the kinship between African roots and American (Jazz) blossoms."
